YouTube, Vimeo or Google Maps embeds load immediately

Your page loads a full video player or map on page load. A single YouTube embed pulls in over 1MB of JavaScript before the visitor even presses play.

Why it matters

Embed scripts compete with your own content for bandwidth and the main thread, hurting LCP, Total Blocking Time and INP.

How to fix it in WordPress

  1. Replace each embed with a lightweight preview (a thumbnail image with a play button) that loads the real player only when clicked.
  2. Plugins like 'WP YouTube Lyte' do this for videos; for maps, use a static map image that links to Google Maps.
  3. Lazy-load any embeds that are below the fold.
